Are web worms harmful for your trees?

Web worms. My wife sent me this picture from outside her window at work and she asked me what it was. So I wrote a blog about it. :-)I just had somebody tell me that web worms are natural and do not harm your trees in any way.  I personally don't see any good reason to keep them around even though I consider myself a bit of a naturalist.  Our customers typically have us come out to remove them mainly because of their unsightlyness.  But can anybody give me a good reason to keep these future moths in the trees?  I always keep an open mind and I like to have all of the information so our customers can make the most conscious choices in their trees and landscapes.

Symbiosis in nature means that all living things have a role to play. When one is taken out of the relationship, something goes wrong in the natural order of things. Even the web worms that some people consider a pest because they are unsightly are important in the environment. I am not for removing them either because doing so might impact the delicate balance of our environment. Web worms live in a green setting for a reason. The reason people hate them is because they are unsightly not because they are destroying the plants and flowers in the garden. Why not just leave them alone because they will metamorphose into months in a few days or weeks, anyway?
